This week’s Throwback Thursday post is dedicated to one of the most versatile and beautiful actresses the Indian Cinema has seen, Rekha. Rekha Ganesan, or popularly known as Rekha entered the motion picture industry in 1966 as a child actress for the Telugu Film Rangula Ratnam, but her Bollywood debut happened 4 years later with the film, Anjana Safar. She became an overnight star with her role in the movie Sawan Bhadon.
he was earlier considered as the ugly duckling of Bollywood because of her complexion and wasn’t considered much for her role. But Rekha being Rekha, she was adamant to change that and started concentrating on styling and make up more. Later on, she went on to do Khoobsurat which helped her bag the award for best actress the first time. Any Rekha story is incomplete without the mention of the Big B. She was rumored to have an affair with Amitabh Bachchan during the filming of Silsila, one of the best movies in her career in 1981.
1981 also brought Umrao Jaan, for which she is recognized till date. Umrao Jaan made a mark in history with her dancing, acting, her looks and those stunning eyes. Umrao Jaan also helped her bag the national award for best actress.
She has ever been succesful in her forthcoming films which include Jeevan Dhaara, Mujhe Insaaf chahiye, Khoon Bhari Maang, Phool Baney Angaray, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Lajja, Koi Mil Gaya and many more… Now she is a nominated Rajya Sabha MP.. This was all about her life.
As a fashion inspiration she was impeccable. From her Saris (Silk Kanjivaram sarees) to her adorning Stylish dresses and leather pants in Khiladiyon ka Khiladi and wearing a 1-piece in Parineeta, she has managed to carry herself royally and with grace. Though with age, she’s resorted to wearing Silk Sarees most of the time, but that too makes her look like a timeless beauty.
To one woman who was considered to be an ugly duckling to one of the most stunning actresses in the Industry, Rekha has been a pioneer of glamour, of style and beauty. We at stylonic pay our honours with just words which may never be enough to describe her.
