Throwback Thursday : Amitabh Bachchan

This weeks Throwback Thursday post is for somebody who has ruled the Indian Film Industry for decades. Be it any generation, his name will be recognized by one and all. His dance numbers are danced on by the old and the young, be it a male or a female, be it the rich or the poor. Yes, we are talking about the first angry young man of Bollywood, the Big B himself, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan!

Bachchan, born in 1942 to the famous poet, Mr. Harivanshrai Bachchan, started his career in 1969, by playing as a voice narrator in Bhuvan Shome. But his first on-screen role came in Saat Hindustani. He did various films in 1971 which included Anand, Parwaana, Guddi, Bawarchi, Bombay to Goa. But his career rose with his role in Zanjeer, after which he was nicknamed the angry young man of India. He did films like Kunwaara Baap, Dost, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and a lot more till 1975. In 1975, what was termed as one of his best films of his career, Deewar was released. 1975 also brought Sholay which was India’s highest earning film for a long period of time.

Apart from these, his hits include Don, Kasme Vaade, Amar Akbar Anthony, Mr. Natwarlal, Kaala Patthar, The Great Gambler, Dostana, Silsila, Satte pe Satta, Shaan, Coolie, and a lot many to name. Probably the page will fill up if we write down his Hits. Apart from Movies, Bachchan has been a part of the Indian Version of “Who wants to be a millionaire” and Big Boss Season 3. Inspite of working in Bollywood for more than 2 decades, his hollywood debut was very recent. He played a role in the movie The Great Gatsby released in 2013!

Apart from being a very disciplined actor, Amitabh Bachchan has inspired a many with his styling. He is always seen to be dressed to the mark. His movies have seen him in various different avatars though! From the Cop in Zanjeer to the super cool Don. From wearing the light suit for his song “Saara Zamaana” in Yaarana (Which is still enacted by a lot many) to his Avatar in Shahenshah. He has also donned very bright colors in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and also in very strict attire in Mohabbatein and Sarkar, Bachchan has been there, done that.

Whatever we write is not going to be enough for this Man, as well as all the awards given to him, who is still active and ruling the Film Industry as he was years back! If there’s one man who everybody loves, it has to be him. To Mr. Bachchan you have inspired generations at a go, and have made a family sit together and watch movies. Our Heartiest respects to you and pray that you entertain us for ages to come.
